BIOGAS PRODUCTION FROM THE MIXTUER OF WATER HYACINTH AND COW DUNG

OBJECTIVES
1. To produced bio gas from the mixture of water hyacinth and cow dung.
2. To study about bio gas.
3.To calculate the amount of gas production during experiment.
4.Analysis for improving biogas production rate.
BIOGAS
Biogas originates from bacteria in the process of bio-degradation of organic material under anaerobic (without air) conditions.
ANAEROBIC DIGESTION:
Anaerobic digestion (AD) is the bacterial fermentation of organic material in the absence of air.
STAGES
i. Hydrolysis
ii. Acid genesis
iii. Acetogenesis
iv. Methanogenesis

BIOGAS PRODUCTION RATE IMPROVEMENT

1.Temperatures range: 27° c to 35 ° c
2.C/N ratio: Ranges from 20:1 to 30:1
3.Methane producing bacteria require a neutral to slightly alkaline environment (pH6.8 to 8.5) in order to produce methane
4.Toxic materials such as fungicides and antibacterial agents can have an adverse effect on anaerobic digestion
5.Addition of foreign materials such as animal bedding, sand and silt can have a significant impact on the anaerobic digestion process

USES OF BIOGAS
1. Production of energy for lighting, heat, electricity
2. Improved sanitation (reduction of pathogens, worm eggs and flies)
3. Reduction of workload (less firewood collecting) and biogas stoves has a better
cooking performance
4. Environmental benefits (fertilizers substitution, less greenhouse gas emission)
5. Improved indoor air quality (less smoke and harmful particle emission of a biogas stove compared to wood or dung fuels)
